In order to route all outbound mail through MX Guardian, you must configure Exchange to use a smarthost. This guide will walk you through creating a new SMTP Connector and configuring it to route outbound mail to MX Guardian.
Note: Make sure outbound filtering is enabled on your account before following this procedure.
- Open Exchange Management Console.
- In the left hand column select Mail Flow
- Go to the Send Connectors tab
- Click New to add a new send connector
- Enter the name as 'MXGuardian', this is just a reference for the connection
- Set the type to Internet
- Click Next
- Select Route mail through smart hosts
- Click Add to add new smart host
- Enter 'smtp.mxguardian.net' and click Save.
- You will now see the smart host listed. Click Next
- Under 'Smart host authentication' choose ONE of the following options:
- Click Next
- Click Add to add a new address space that is permitted to use the smart host
- Set the type to 'SMTP'
- Set FQDN to '*' meaning all domains
- Set cost to '1'
- Click Save
- Click Add to add a permitted source server
- Click the appropriate server(s) from the list and click Add for each
- Click OK
- Click Finish to save the connector
- You may need to restart the Exchange SMTP / Transport services for the changes to take effect
