Configuring your Exchange 2016 server to only accept mail from MXGuardian helps in reducing spam and malicious email content by ensuring that all incoming emails are first analyzed by MXGuardian before they reach your Exchange server. Below, we detail the steps required to configure Exchange 2016 to exclusively accept mail from MXGuardian.
- Open Exchange Management Console
- Select Mail Flow
- Go to the Receive Connectors tab
- Find the connector named "Default frontend SERVERNAME". The "SERVERNAME" part will be replaced by the actual name of your server. Select this connector and click on the Edit icon (looks like a pencil) to modify its settings.
- Go to the Scoping section and select the default IP range (0.0.0.0 - 255.255.255.255) and click the Delete icon.
- Click on the Add icon and add the MXGuardian IP addresses one at a time.
- Once they are all added click Save
- Restart the Exchange Transport Service to activate the changes. This can be done through the Services management console or via the following PowerShell command:
Restart-Service MSExchangeTransport
Before running this command, you may need to launch PowerShell with administrative privileges. Restarting the service ensures that your Exchange server starts to use the new receive connector configuration immediately. This will prevent spammers from connecting directly to your Exchange server and bypassing MXGuardian email security.
