Logging in as a User versus an Admin

Two types of login credentials

In MX Guardian, there are two types of login credentials: Admin and User. The Admin has access to domain-wide settings and email whereas Users only have access to their personal email. 

One login page

Despite having two types of login credentials, there is only one login page. Both Users and Admins can login at the following URL:

https://secure.mxguardian.net/admin/login

MX Guardian will automatically detect which type of user you are logging in as and redirect you to the appropriate page after logging in.

How it works

MX Guardian will first try to log you in as an Admin. If the username and password entered are valid Admin credentials, you will be logged in as a Admin. If that fails, MX Guardian will try to log you in as a normal User. If the username and password entered are valid User credentials, you will be logged in as that user. 

What if I have an Admin account and a User account under the same email address?

If you have an Admin account and a User account under the same email address, the password you enter will determine which account you get logged into. If you enter the password for your Admin account you will be logged into the Admin account. Conversly, if you enter the password for your User account you will be logged into the User account. 

If you are trying to login as an Admin but you are seeing the User control panel instead, you are using the wrong password. Please enter the password for your Admin account or reset it by clicking the Password  Reset link on the login page. The password reset link will reset the Admin account password if one exists. If no Admin account exists for your email address, it will reset your user account password. 

What if my Admin account password is the same as my User account password?

In this case, you will always be logged in as the Admin. You will not be able to login as a User if your Admin password is the same as your User password. We recommend changing the password for one or the other so they are not the same. Then you will be able to login as either one you choose.
